Blake Sloven is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). He earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Towson University. Blake works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. He provides a comfortable, safe, supportive, and compassionate atmosphere, which helps his clients feel secure in exploring the obstacles preventing them from maximizing their full capabilities. He is dedicated to helping people find peace, security, and happiness in their lives and relationships.
Blake takes a humanistic approach to counseling and uses an interpersonal model of therapy. He views the client/counselor relationship as the most important component of effective counseling. Blake is Level II trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy that helps people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. He also utilizes interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy, existential therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, and family systems. Blake’s knowledge has enabled his clients to identify their strengths, maladaptive defense mechanisms, and to form healthy coping strategies. He creates a unique therapeutic experience for each person he works with.
